Who Can Apply for RRB Technician Grade 3
Age limit is 18 to 30 years as on July 1, 2026. OBC, SC/ST, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen get standard relaxations as per government rules.
For qualification, you need either of these:
- Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI (NCVT or SCVT) in a relevant trade
- Matriculation plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in a related trade
Relevant trades include Electrical, Fitter, Welder, Electronics, Mechanical, and several others. The full trade-wise list will be in the detailed notification.
One thing many people miss: you can apply to only one RRB per pay level. Also make sure your Aadhaar details match your Class 10 certificate exactly. Small mismatches create big headaches later.

How to Fill the Application Form
- Go to rrbapply.gov.in or your regional RRB portal
- Register with a working email ID and mobile number
- Fill the form carefully and upload your photo, signature, and certificates
- Pay the fee: ₹500 for UR/OBC or ₹250 for SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-SM
- Submit and download the confirmation page
Honest advice: do not wait till July 27 or 28. In the 2025 cycle, the portal was barely loading in the last two days. Fill your form by July 20 to avoid that mess.
Salary and What You Actually Get
Technician Grade III sits at Pay Level 2 with a basic pay of ₹19,900. After DA, HRA, and Transport Allowance, the in-hand figure lands somewhere between ₹28,000 and ₹35,000+ per month, depending on your posting city.
Beyond the salary, you get railway quarters, free medical facilities, travel passes, and NPS pension. For an ITI passout looking for long-term stability, this is genuinely a strong package.
Selection Process
Three stages: CBT, then Document Verification, then Medical Examination.
The CBT covers Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Basic Science and Engineering, and General Awareness. Usually 100 questions in 90 minutes, with 1/3 negative marking. Start with previous year papers. Do not skip mock tests.
