CAP Counselling: What Happens After the Result
Once your MHT CET 2026 scorecard is out, the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) begins. This is the seat allotment round conducted online through the CAP 2026-27 portal.
The process runs in this sequence: register on the CAP portal, get your documents physically verified at a designated facilitation center, fill your college and branch preferences, then wait for allotment rounds.
During each allotment round, you get three choices that most students get confused about:
Freeze means you accept the allotted seat and stop participating in further rounds. You’re done, seat locked.
Float means you keep the current seat but want to try for a better college in the next round. If a better option opens up, you move. If not, your current seat holds.
Slide means you’re happy with the college but want a better branch within the same institute. You stay in the same college but slide to a preferred branch if seats open.
Do not take the Freeze/Float/Slide decision casually. A lot of students panic during Round 1 and Freeze prematurely, only to realize better seats were available in Round 2. Read the CAP brochure carefully before making that choice.
JEE Main scores are factored in for Engineering seat allotment in certain quota seats alongside your MHT CET percentile.
